Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wasted no time. βΎπ₯
June 18 β Toronto Blue Jays 4, Boston Red Sox 3. Fenway Park.
First inning. First statement. His solo homer gave Toronto an early lead at Fenway, and for most of the night, the Blue Jays stayed in control.
Trey Yesavage turned in another solid outing, keeping Boston in check deep into the game and putting Toronto in position to win.
But Fenway came alive in the 8th.
Back-to-back home runs from Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Caleb Durbin erased the Blue Jays' lead and suddenly this game was tied at 3.
Then came the answer.
The Bottom of the 9th
Brandon Valenzuela stepped to the plate with runners aboard. One swing. One clutch double. Toronto was back in front.
Tommy Nance earned the win out of the bullpen. Mason Fluharty shut the door. The Blue Jays escaped Boston with a dramatic victory.
The Comeback That Wasn't Enough
The Red Sox showed fight in the 8th β back-to-back homers from Kiner-Falefa and Durbin tied it at 3. But the Blue Jays had one more answer in the 9th. Valenzuela's clutch double proved to be the difference in a game that had no business being this close.
