Six innings of zeros. Drew Rasmussen dealing. Justin Wrobleski matching him zero for zero. Then Ohtani stepped in and ended it with one swing. βΎπ¨
June 16 β Los Angeles Dodgers 1, Tampa Bay Rays 0. Dodger Stadium.
Rasmussen was dominant through the first five. Wrobleski was matching him pitch for pitch β 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts. A pitchers' duel for the ages at Dodger Stadium.
Then Ohtani jumped on the first pitch of the 6th. A cutter over the middle of the plate. He demolished it β 427 feet to straightaway center field. Game over before Rays manager Drew Rasmussen could even blink.
"Is this 1968?" one fan joked on social media, referencing the era of legendary pitching duels.
The Pitchers' Duel
Wrobleski exited after six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts and zero walks. He was only pitching on four days rest β a shortened outing but a dominant one. Will Klein worked around a leadoff walk in the 7th. Kyle Hurt went 1-2-3 in the 8th. Tanner Scott closed it out in the 9th.
On the other side, Drew Rasmussen was equally brilliant β and deserved a better fate. The solo homer was the only blemish on his line. Rasmuss is having an All-Star caliber season and was in Cy Young conversation coming into this start.
One Swing. One Game. π¦
Sometimes baseball is simple. Two elite pitchers going toe-to-toe for six innings. Then the best player in the world steps in and deposits the first pitch 427 feet to center. The Dodgers improve to 47-27. The win also gave them the series β they went for the sweep on Wednesday with Ohtani on the mound.
