Cleveland Wins a Tight One and Keeps Climbing

The Guardians beat the Marlins 3-2 on July 10.

Cleveland struck first in the fourth when Chase DeLauter launched a two-run homer to right-center, scoring Brayan Rocchio for a 2-0 lead.

The Guardians added another run in the fifth when Travis Bazzana lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Austin Hedges.

Miami fought back with solo home runs from Heriberto Hernández in the sixth and Leo Jiménez in the seventh, but Cleveland’s bullpen made the lead stand.

Parker Messick earned the win after allowing one run over six innings. Cade Smith worked the ninth for his 28th save.

The Guardians improve to 49-46. The Marlins fall to 52-43.
