🐯🔥 Nobody Asked Detroit to Show Up Today. They Showed Up Anyway.

May 24 — Tigers 4, Orioles 1.

By BaseChaser · May 25, 2026 · 3 min read

Eight-game losing streak. Third win in 19 games. 8-21 on the road. By all accounts, the Detroit Tigers had absolutely no business winning this baseball game.

And then Dillon Dingler said: hold my helmet. ⚾

First inning. First pitch practically. Two-run homer off Trevor Rogers. Just like that the Tigers had a 2-0 lead before Baltimore even blinked. Kevin McGonigle piled on with a two-run single and that was all Troy Melton needed.

Melton Made It Count

Melton? Making his SEASON DEBUT after recovering from elbow inflammation. 5.2 innings. 2 hits. 1 earned run. The man literally came back from injury and immediately shut down an AL East lineup. Drew Anderson closed it out with 4 strikeouts in 2 innings.

Meanwhile Gunnar Henderson — one of the best SS in baseball — went 0-for-4. Baltimore managed just 3 hits all night.

4-1
Final score — Tigers over Orioles. Game 2 of doubleheader. Streak snapped.
5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER
Troy Melton — season debut after elbow inflammation. Shut down the AL East.
8-game
Losing streak — snapped. Tigers walked out of Baltimore with a win.

Where They Stand Now

Detroit Tigers playoff odds: 7.1% 📉

Baltimore Orioles playoff odds: 16.9% 📉

Look, 7.1% isn't great. But it's been a rough 19 games and today Dingler reminded everyone the Tigers still have a pulse. 💓

The Bottom Line

Nobody asked Detroit to show up today. They showed up anyway.
